VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) provides organizations with a consistent, upstream-compatible, regional Kubernetes substrate that is ready for end-user workloads and ecosystem integrations. With TKG, you can deploy Kubernetes clusters across Software-defined Datacenters (SDDC) and public cloud environments, such as vSphere.
Bare Metal Orchestrator supports the deployment and life cycle management of complete TKG instance, including the management clusters, the shared and in-cluster services, and the Tanzu Kubernetes clusters.
Management Cluster
A management cluster is the first element that you deploy when you create a TKG instance. The management cluster is a Kubernetes cluster that performs the role of the primary management and operational center for the TKG instance. This is where the Cluster API runs to create the Tanzu Kubernetes clusters, and configure the shared and in-cluster services.
Shared and In-Cluster Services
Shared and in-cluster services are the services that run in the TKG instance, to provide authentication and authorization of Tanzu Kubernetes clusters, logging, and ingress control.
Tanzu Kubernetes Cluster
A Tanzu Kubernetes Cluster, also referred to as a workload cluster, is the cluster that handles application workloads.
