The SDS networks are used for storage connectivity between the two clusters.
Two non-routable, Layer 2 SDS networks are required (SDS-1 and SDS-2). These networks will already be configured on the PowerFlex nodes, but they must also be set up on the MC nodes and MC ToR switches. The implementation steps for these procedures are detailed in this implementation guide.
In each SDS data network, an address is required for each MC node in the solution.
In our example, PowerFlex used a /25 subnet for both networks, which allows for up to 126 IP addresses per network.
When reserving IP addresses for this solution, keep in mind your future scalability plans for both clusters. Dell might offer higher nodes per cluster maximums in a future release.
Each of the two SDS networks will already be configured on their own VLANs.
To aid in the configuration of this Dell Validated Design , complete the following tables with the details of your PowerFlex environment and the planned IP addresses for the MC Node SDS Data VLANs. The pre-populated examples in these tables will be used through the remainder of this implementation guide.
You can obtain the information for the following tables from your PowerFlex solution. Depending on the size of your cluster, you might need to add more rows to the tables.
Configurable item | Value |
SDS 1 Network and Mask | Example: 172.0.1.0 /25 |
SDS 2 Network and Mask | Example: 172.0.2.0 /25 |
SDS 1 VLAN ID | Example: 1001 |
SDS 2 VLAN ID | Example: 1002 |
PowerFlex node | SDS-1 network IP address | SDS-2 network IP address |
PowerFlex node 1 | Example: 172.0.1.1 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.1 /25 |
PowerFlex node 2 | Example: 172.0.1.2 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.2 /25 |
PowerFlex node 3 | Example: 172.0.1.3 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.3 /25 |
PowerFlex node 4 | Example: 172.0.1.4 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.4 /25 |
MDM | SDS-1 network IP address | SDS-2 network IP address |
MDM Virtual IP | Example: 172.0.1.20 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.20 /25 |
Select unused IP addresses from each of the SDS data networks for assigning to each of your MC Nodes. Depending on the size of your cluster, you might need to add more rows to the tables.

MC Node 2 | Example: 172.0.1.32 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.32 /25 |
MC Node 3 | Example: 172.0.1.33 /25 | Example: 172.0.2.33 /25 |
