Figure 2 shows the high-level architecture for protecting data on PowerStore storage arrays.
Data Manager includes integration for end-to-end orchestration of backup and recovery of PowerStore storage resources, which are volumes and volumes groups. The storage array data protection service includes multiple modules to:
Data Manager is integrated with PowerStore management through the storage array REST APIs. Data Domain appliances are the target protection storage to protect the resources (volumes and volume groups) on PowerStore. From PowerStore, the snapshot data is sent to Data Domain appliance through DD Boost over IP. When incremental backups are performed, only the unique data is traversed through the network to create a remote snapshot on the Data Domain appliances. The data then can be replicated to a different Data Domain appliance and can be sent to various cloud providers supported by Data Domain appliance as part of the cloud tier feature for long-term retention (LTR) or archival.
