License Manager is included in the Dell Telecom Infrastructure Automation Suite bundle and provides a method to upload, activate, and manage Automation Suite license files. To use Automation Suite, you require a digital license.
Key license details include:
- Start and end dates for the license validity period.
- Maximum managed entities (RTMs)—the number of devices or components that you can manage (available for prepaid term customers).
- License types that are available: trial, lab, and production.
Each Automation Suite system has a unique cluster ID which associates the license with Automation Suite . For more information about retrieving the cluster ID, see step 10 in Activate and generate a production license. Only the Automation Suite Global Controller requires a license. Local controllers do not.
You must create an .xml file with details like cluster ID, license type, entities, and duration. Dell generates a digitally signed license file based on your order. Upload this file to the Automation Suite interface or API for activation.
Automation Suite becomes licensed when you upload and activate the license file. Only one active license is allowed at a time. If you upload a new license, the previous one is replaced. Even if a license expires, Automation Suite continues working but logs the expiration.
You can request to have one of the license files in the Automation Suite bundle. The installer uploads and activates the license during the installation process through the license manager.
Types of licenses:
- Automation Suite Trial license: A trial license starts on the deployment date and is valid for six months. The trial license can be deployed on one Automation Suite instance and cannot be reused. There is no restriction on the number of devices being managed.
- Automation Suite LAB license: A pre-production or lab license allows customers to test the Automation Suite software in a controlled environment before deploying it in production. It has the same terms and functionality as a purchased premium license, except it has a fixed limit on the number of managed devices.
- Automation Suite Production license: A production license enables all features and allows the prepaid license type of Automation Suite . Depending on the contract, it enforces the device count and duration with prepaid licenses. The production license durations available are either one year or three years.
Automation Suite does not allow the reuse of expired licenses. Automation Suite generates notifications when:
- The managed entities count has reached or crossed 90% of the maximum that is allowed by the license, reached the maximum that is allowed by the license, or exceeds the maximum that is allowed by the license.
- The license is in a grace period, is about to expire in 7 days, or has expired.
