Validate that the networking has been correctly configured from end-to-end.
This test confirms the following:
- IP connectivity has been properly established between the MC HCI nodes and the PowerFlex nodes with the two non-routable data networks.
- Jumbo Frames have been correctly set to 9014 on the host interfaces and switch ports throughout the network infrastructure.
- Communication between the MC HCI nodes and PowerFlex nodes over the two non-routable data networks incur a latency of under 1 millisecond.
From each MC node, ping each of the PowerFlex node's SDS network interface IP addresses using a large MTU size using the - l option, which ensures the packets are not fragmented. This, in turn, sends suitable sized packets to best emulate storage packets. We are using the MTU size of 8972 which excludes the 28-bit packet headers.
ping 172.0.1.1 -l 8972 -f
In a successful output, you receive replies to the ping request that have a Round Trip Time (RTT) of less than 1 millisecond and where no fragmentation errors occur.
An unsuccessful output contains the following message or there are no replies at all:
"Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set"
Ensure this validation test is performed from every MC node to each PowerFlex node's SDS-1 and SDS-2 IP address.
