Brownfield servers are existing servers that were onboarded from a customer location that are now part of Bare Metal Orchestrator life cycle management. These servers are already operational and carry workload or services.
Onboarding servers into Bare Metal Orchestrator triggers the reconciliation process, which initiates specific work flows like firmware updates, operating system deployment, and so on. This process may disrupt the existing services on the server. Brownfield server onboarding facilitates the migration of servers without disrupting the existing workload or services.
Brownfield server onboarding facilitates the user to:
- control the reconciliation process while onboarding a brownfield server into Bare Metal Orchestrator
- perform all other server operations after onboarding a brownfield server
Bare Metal Orchestrator facilitates the migration of servers in the following scenarios:
- Servers from on premises to cloud
- Servers from one Bare Metal Orchestrator instance to another Bare Metal Orchestrator instance
- Servers from other orchestrators to Bare Metal Orchestrator
