Bare Metal Orchestrator is an infrastructure automation solution that enables Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to rapidly provision, perform lifecycle management, and monitor their infrastructure.
Bare Metal Orchestrator provides different interfaces for end-to-end infrastructure automation, lifecycle management, and monitoring. Bare Metal Orchestrator works with the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) and supports the following features:
- Amazon elastic compute cloud (Amazon EC2) support
- Deploys Bare Metal Orchestrator on an Amazon web services (AWS) Cloud on EC2 instances.
- Backup and restore
- Schedules and performs manual backups.
- BMC event subscription
- Creates subscriptions on the iDRAC server to receive notifications for specific events that occur on the server.
- Custom installation
- Adds optional custom Bare Metal Orchestrator installation using a graphical user interface launched through the CLI.
- DHCP support
- Manages the DHCP configuration.
- Discovering devices
- Discovers servers and switches. Collects inventory. You can also discover devices by scanning IP addresses.
- Drift detection
- Detects a server configuration mismatch (drift) before provisioning a server with a blueprint template applied.
- Factory reset
- Provides a way to restore a component to factory settings.
- Logging
- Gathers system logs and audit logs that you can export and view.
- Media management
- Specifies a switch or server media type for firmware, operating system, and license media.
- Metrics collection
- Provides metrics reports with BMC statistics for server health monitoring.
- Multitenancy
- Creates and manages multiple tenants.
- Network bonding
- Combines multiple physical and virtual network interfaces into a single interface.
- Operating system deployment
- Installs an operating system. BIOS and BMC attributes were added to support different operating systems.
- Power control
- Performs various actions on servers such as powering them on or off.
- Provisioning hardware
- Uses hardware profile templates to provision multiple servers. You can update firmware versions, and different attributes such as Basic Input Output System (BIOS), BMC, Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks Controller (RAID), and so on.
- Remote serviceability and support
- The Embedded Service Enabler (ESE) is embedded in Bare Metal Orchestrator and allows connection to the Dell back end through the Secure Connectivity Gateway (SCG) for telemetry and remote serviceability support. The SCG is an aggregator of multiple products from one customer site and is deployed as a virtual machine (VM) external to Bare Metal Orchestrator. This option provides additional functionality that is not offered by the ESE alone.
- Role-based access control
- Manages users, their assigned roles, and Bare Metal Orchestrator access. You can provide users with specific access and privileges that are allocated to them according to their assigned roles.
- Server lifecycle management
- Manages the lifecycle of servers and monitors the health of on-boarded servers.
- Site management
- Automates site and associated devices management.
- Switch lifecycle management
- Manages the lifecycle of Dell and Cisco switches. You can deploy an operating system and perform firmware updates.
- Telemetry enablement
- Enables telemetry collection from Dell, HPE, and Supermicro servers. Configures telemetry attributes to collect telemetry data.
- User management
- Allows you to create and delete users.
- License management
- Allows you to upload, validate, activate, download, and describe a license.
